The sound designer, Ben Burtt, was one of the team members JJ Abrmas to be interviewed by British magazine Star Trek Magazine. Burtt talked about the elements of the original series of Star Trek that he tried to copy to the new Star Trek movie, along with new sounds. See the highlights.
Benjamin Burtt is an expert in sound effects, winner of two Oscars in the genre with ET movies. and Raiders of the Lost Ark. Among his other works have sound effects in Star Wars robot R2-D2, the lightsaber, as well as the sound of Darth Vader breathing. In 2008 produced the "voice" of the robot WALL-E and the sound effects from Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.
"Two things in the original Star Trek effects were revolutionary: Roddenberry had a team that created many details. Each room of the ship sounded different. Each button made a noise when pressed a lever or a switch. Not only was there the sounds put all these things to make them sound like real, but the sounds were very musical. Someone pressed a button, there was a little melody. That was not in the movie, at which point I got: you just hear a small beep. If it was Day, I needed to sing a little and feel like it was alive.
